Privacy Policy

Effective [effective date]

Stackowl (“Stackowl”, “we”, “us”) is a budgeting app that plans each paycheck: the bills it covers and what’s left to spend and save. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the app, and your choices. It covers the website at thestackowl.com and the Stackowl apps for iPhone and Android.

Stackowl is operated by [LLC legal name], [LLC mailing address]. Questions? Send us a message through our contact form.

The short version

  • We keep what you type into Stackowl (your pay schedule, bills, stacks and categories) so we can show you your budget on any device you sign in on.
  • We don’t sell your information, show you ads based on it, or share it with data brokers.
  • We don’t connect to your bank. Stackowl only knows what you type in.
  • We use no advertising or analytics trackers.
  • You can delete your account and everything in it at any time, in the app or on the website.

What we collect

Your account

  • Your email address, your first name if you give it, and a password if you sign up with one. We never see your password: our sign-in provider (Firebase Authentication, from Google) stores it in a form that can’t be read back.
  • If you sign in with Google on the website, your name, email address and the ID Google gives us.

Your budget

  • What you enter: how much and how often you’re paid, your bills (name, amount, due date, how often, category, and how you save for it), your spending and savings stacks, and your categories.
  • If you share a household: the email addresses of people you invite, and who is a member.

Technical information

  • Our hosting and sign-in providers keep standard logs (such as IP address, browser or device type, and the time of a request) to run the service, keep it secure and prevent abuse.
  • If the app or website crashes, a crash report: the device and system, the app version and what went wrong. It carries a random account ID, but not your name, email or budget figures.
  • Your browser or phone keeps some information on the device, such as whether you’re signed in and a copy of your budget so it loads quickly. This is how the app works, not tracking.

What we don’t collect: your bank logins or account numbers, your Social Security number, your precise location, your contacts, or your photos.

How we use it

  • To run Stackowl: show your budget, keep it in sync across your devices and with your household, and keep your account secure.
  • To answer you when you send us a message.
  • To send messages about your account or the service, such as a household invite you asked us to send, or a change to this policy. We don’t send marketing email without your permission.
  • To keep Stackowl safe and working: preventing abuse and fixing crashes.

Who helps us run Stackowl

We share information only with the companies that run parts of Stackowl for us, only as much as they need, and under agreements that limit how they can use it:

ServiceWhat it doesWhat it handles
Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, App Check)Sign-in, storing your budget, blocking fake apps and botsYour account and your budget
VercelHosting the websiteRequests to the website and their logs

Zoho MailOur support emailMessages you send us through our contact form, and our replies
Apple and Google (app stores)Delivering the appsAs described in their own policies

We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone’s safety, or as part of a sale or merger of Stackowl, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.

Keeping your information safe

Your budget is stored with Google Firebase, encrypted in transit and at rest. Only you and the members of your household can read it: our security rules check that on every request. No system is perfectly secure, but we take care to protect your information and will tell you promptly if a breach affects it.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and budget until you delete them. When you delete your account, it’s deleted straight away from our live systems, and from any backups within 30 days. We may keep a record that an account was deleted, and what the law requires us to keep.

Your choices and rights

  • See and change your information: everything you’ve entered is in the app, and you can edit it there.
  • Delete your account: in the app or on the website, go to Settings, then Delete account. If you share a household and you’re a member, the others keep the budget; if you’re its owner, the budget is deleted for everyone. If you can’t sign in, send us a message through our contact form, giving the email address on your account. More at thestackowl.com/delete-account.
  • Get a copy: ask us, and we’ll send your budget in a common format.

Depending on where you live (for example, California or the European Union), you may have more rights, such as knowing what we hold, correcting it, or objecting to how it’s used. Send us a message through our contact form and we’ll respond within the time the law allows. We don’t sell or “share” personal information as California law defines it.

Children

Stackowl isn’t for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Where your information is stored

Stackowl is run from the United States, and your information is stored in the United States. If you use Stackowl from elsewhere, you understand it will be transferred to and processed in the United States.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update the effective date above, and for important changes we’ll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect.
